Our Work

 

The work of the Black Leadership Collective is designed to empower its members and their communities to advocate on behalf of social justice issues. The Collective uses several methods to support this effort including holding workshops, organizing events, artistic expression, and youth mentorship.

Workshops

The BLC creates and organizes workshops for local high schools, national conferences, and community organizations.

Some of the issues covered in the workshops include the importance of social justice activism, art as activsm, and expression as self-care.

Events

The BLC holds two monthly events:

1st Thusdays: Open Mic Night in colloboration with Four Elements at the Euphrat Museum of Art on the campus of De Anza College.

3rd Thursdays: A Film & Dialogue Series in colloboration with the African American Studies Dept. at De Anza College.

Additionally, the BLC has organized numerous events centering on police brutalit, social justce, community engagement, and outreach. The BLC services are available for events.

Artistic Expression

The BLC believes that artistic expression is an important component of social justice activism. Each summer they attend a week-long Art & Social Justice Institute. Additionally, several members of the Collective have passions for dance, music, spoken word/poetry, painting, and writing.
